Lightstone’s analysis of data gleaned from their transactional systems shows that the gap between men and women financing light vehicles is narrowing.
In 2014, the ratio of women to men financing vehicles was around 1:3, and over the last decade this gap has closed reasonably steadily, and over the first seven months in 2024 almost 40% of financed vehicles were purchased by women.
Women vs men - share of vehicle sales
Nowhere is this more evident than in the new vehicle space where women’s share of purchases has climbed from 40% to 46% over the last decade.
Women vs men - share of new vehicle sales
In the used vehicle space, the change is less dramatic, but it is happening, nonetheless. Over the last ten years the share of purchases by men has contracted from 70% in 2014 to 65% in 2024.
